10 Reasons For England Fans To Be Optimistic After World Cup 2018

8. Anything Is Possible

If there's one thing this World Cup proved, it's that football is an unpredictable game and the competition is always shifting and changing over time. Heading into the tournament, Brazil, Germany, Spain, and France were considered the clear favourites. One went out in the groups and only one got past the quarter finals. Even France, despite winning, never looked particularly unbeatable.

Meanwhile, upsets occurred all over the place. Lowly-ranked sides like Russia and Japan proved that with a bit of belief, the right attitude, and a good system, anything was possible. England need to take heart from all of that. It's time to start believing that the Three Lions really can go all the way.

Too often in the past, the team seems to have gone into games acting like they'd already lost, just because the opposition had a better history or more famous players, but this World Cup was filled with examples of underdogs overcoming adversity. Better teams and better players will always exist on paper, but this tournament, more than ever, showed that anything can happen in 90 minutes and the Three Lions can look back at their 2018 campaign as an inspiration for the future.
