10 Reasons Newcastle Must Give Jonas Gutierrez A New Contract
10. He's Better Than Most Of The Current Squad
Let's look at things pretty bluntly here. Jonas Gutierrez is better than the majority of Newcastle's midfield options. Moussa Sissoko and Jack Colback aside, looking at Newcastle's midfield options is pretty dour reading. Jonas' abilities, both physically and technically, far exceed the likes of Ryan Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Vurnon Anita, Yoan Gouffran and Cheick Tiote; all players to turn out for United in the centre of the park this season. Newcastle should be looking to offload the inferior talents of both Anita and Gouffran before even considering moving The Argentine on. On top of this, Newcastle don't have any wingers of any note so Jonas needs to stay to fill those voids next term. Unless of course Mike Ashley is willing to part with upwards of £30 million to bring in three of four quality wide men. Jonas' performance on Sunday alone far exceeded anything Remy Cabella and Gabriel Obertan produced last season while Rolando Aarons can't be trusted due to persistent injury problems. The Newcastle squad needs Jonas Gutierrez in it.
