England's second choice keeper shouldn't be playing in England's second division. It's as simple as that. Jack Butland, like Alfie Mawson or Ahmed Hegazi, is another of those players whose performances were just too good to end in relegation.

The former Birmingham City keeper put his body on the line and gave everything he had to keep Stoke in with a chance of survival, with notable heroics against Burnley, Huddersfield, Southampton and Arsenal at various stages throughout last season. He had some poor games too and is by no means a perfect keeper, but is more than good enough to be starting for plenty of Premier League squads.

At the age of 25, Butland wants to keep competing for his spot in the England squad but needs to be playing at the top level in order to do that. He's potentially got a very bright career still ahead of him and has been linked with some of the best clubs in the country, including Chelsea and Liverpool. England's number two would be wise to choose a club where he can be the undisputed first choice, rather than having to compete with another top class keeper for game time.
