10 Relegated Players Who Deserve To Play In Premier League Next Season

2. Alfie Mawson (Swansea)

Highly rated by England manager Gareth Southgate, Swansea City's Alfie Mawson seems to be simply too talented to be wasting time in the Championship. Detractors might argue that any player who gets relegated deserves to get relegated, but Swansea didn't drop down to the Championship because of Mawson. They went down because they had the weakest attack in the division.

Their defence wasn't bad at all, conceding fewer goals than 8th placed Everton, and Mawson played a big part in that. The 24-year-old did everything he could to keep the Welsh club in the top flight, even chipping in with a memorable game-winning goal against Liverpool back in January, but his efforts were in vain. His defensive prowess caught the eye of many experts and it wasn't a surprise to see the former Barnsley player called up to the England squad for a couple of friendlies earlier this year.

A very strong and capable defender with huge potential, Mawson needs to prioritise his own career right now and get himself back in the Premier League in order to pursue his ambitions of turning out for England. A move to Burnley has been rumoured, and he'd fit in perfectly with a such a strong defensive squad.
