10 Retired Footballers Who Went Out In Style

2. Paul Scholes

Unlike the others on this list, it is Paul Scholes' second retirement we will be focusing on today.

After spending his entire career with Manchester United as one of the famous Class of '92, the red-headed midfield maestro hung up his boots after the 2010/11 season.

Sir Alex Ferguson entered his penultimate season in charge with a midfield consisting of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Darron Gibson and an 18-year-old Paul Pogba.

After a string of injuries and an unwillingness to promote Pogba - something United would later regret - Fergie convinced Scholes to revive his playing career for The Red Devils.

In January 2012 he made his return to football and bagged 4 goals in the second half of the 2011/12 to steady the ship as Manchester United finished as runners-up.

Scholes was convinced to stay on for the entirety of the 2012/13 season; a decision he will certainly be thankful he made.

Though a knee injury interrupted his strong run of games, the former English international showed that he was still capable of running the show.

After a staggering 10 Premier League titles, Paul Scholes must have loved retiring a second time with his 11th Premier League winner's medal.

Gerrard and Lampard could never.
