When the New Orleans Saints knocked the Minnesota Vikings out of the '09-'10 playoffs, there were allegations of players deliberately targeting Vikings QB Brett Favre. This was confirmed by an anonymous letter sent to league officials in the off-season, which prompted an investigation into The Saints.

The findings revealed that there had been a bounty scheme introduced to New Orleans in 2009 by Defensive Co-Ordinator Gregg Williams, and that 27 players were involved overall. The system would guarantee players cash bonuses for targeting specific players, with varying degrees of bonus for the amount of damage caused.

Williams was suspended, various other punishments and suspensions were dealt out to key players and staff. On top of this, The Saints were fined $500,000 and stripped of their 2012 and 2013 second round draft picks.
