10 Shocking Newcastle United Departures That No One Saw Coming

5. Yohan Cabaye (Sold To Paris Saint-Germain In January 2014)

The actual sale of Yohan Cabaye did not come as much of a surprise as their had been murmurs about the Frenchman's departure throughout January, yet it was still strange to see Newcastle sell their best player midway through the season. More shockingly, since then Cabaye has claimed that Newcastle United agreed to let him leave in the transfer window before there were any bids for him, despite the club insisting that they did not want to sell him to Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder joineed Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 for an estimated fee of around £19 million but struggled in Paris and has since returned to the Premier League, signing for Crystal Palace in July 2015.
