10 Most Shocking UFC Drug Failures

6. Stephen Bonnar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_64cRo0lcY Stephen Bonnar is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, and was part of one of the greatest fights of all time, the fight that broke MMA and the UFC into the mainstream - Griffin vs. Bonnar 1. He's also a twice-busted drug cheat. Oops. His first positive test came after Griffin vs. Bonnar 2, in 2006 at UFC 62. He lost a unanimous decision to Griffin in their long awaited rematch, and was subsequently popped for anabolic steroids. Ever the home of second chances, and not about to give the cold shoulder to a guy who helped bring the company to the mainstream, the UFC kept Bonnar on, once his nine-month suspension was served. Bonnar would go 5-3 upon his return, including a loss to Jon Jones, and a Fight of the Night TKO win over Krzysztof Soszynski in the second fight between the two, after Bonnar lost the first due to a cut caused by an inadvertent headbutt. After beating Kyle Kingsbury in November 2011, Bonnar would just sort of... fade away. No fights were on the horizon, and Bonnar seemed to consider himself retired - until an ankle injury to featherweight champ Jose Aldo, due to headline UFC 153 in October 2012, left the card without a main event. Then the UFC offered up a spectacle: middleweight champ Anderson Silva would go up in weight and fight Bonnar on short notice. To make a long story short, Silva wrecked Anderson with a knee to the solar plexus, Bonnar learned what losing the ability to breathe felt like, and after the fight, he tested positive for anabolic steroids for the second time in his career. His excuse? He'd been preparing for a pro wrestling career. He subsequently retired, made it into the UFC Hall of Fame, and the wrestling career? Well that never seems to have materialized.
