1. Matt Serra vs. Georges St. Pierre - UFC 69
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iGj9uXDJrA There still hasn't been a more monumental upset and shocking knockout than what Matt Serra did at UFC 69. He was listed as a +850 underdog, while Georges St. Pierre was a -1350 favorite. Serra had just won the Ultimate Fighter season four welterweight tournament. Nobody gave his victory much credence. Meanwhile St. Pierre was on a tear beating both B.J Penn and Matt Hughes in the same year. This wasn't expected to be a very competitive title fight. People had always criticized Serra for being too bulky and that would affect his speed. Then you look at St. Pierre, who is arguably one of the fastest welterweights of all time. The speed discrepancy didn't prove to be much of a factor, as Serra used great head movement early on. St. Pierre seemed flustered by not being able to land anything significant. Serra lands an overhand right that seemed to have grazed him. In a matter of moments, he begins to stagger and Serra begins to throw a flurry of punches. He landed a powerful straight right that landed on St. Pierre's jaw. A wild furry occurs and people are shell-shocked. A Jiu-Jitsu specialist, who had zero knockouts on his record is about to beat the champion? It was tough to comprehend, yet Serra took advantage of a fallen St. Pierre and punched him until the fight was stopped. Nobody could believe what had just transpired, as Serra was being hoisted in the air as champion. While it only turned out to be a minor setback in St. Pierre's career, it was still a monumental loss. From a betting odds and an overall analytical perspective, it seemed inconceivable to believe that Serra could actually win. This fight is a prime example of why "anything could happen in a fight on any given night", which is why it ranks as the most shocking knockout in UFC history.
