9. Aberdare Athletic
One of the biggest teams in Welsh football at the start of the twentieth century, four-time Welsh Football League winners Aberdare Athletic joined the Football League in 1921 after a year in the Southern League. In their initial season, the team finished 8th in the Third Division South. The 8th placed finish would be one of the highlights of Athletic's time in the league. Only once more would the side place in the top ten of the Third Division South. Their cup performances were not much more exciting either, a sole Third Round appearance resulting in a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United. After letting in 101 goals on route to a bottom placed finish in the 1926-27 season, Aberdare were voted out of the league. After losing their league status, Aberdare Athletic were disbanded almost immediately. Currently, the town's largest team Aberdare Town plays in the Welsh Football League Division One, where they finished 11th last season.
