10 Stats That Show Why Newcastle United Lost To Manchester United

1. When Papiss Cisse Doesn't Score, Newcastle Rarely Ever Win

Papiss Cisse has scored 11 Premier League goals this season - that is 34% of Newcastle's total (32). Just two players - Saido Berahino for West Bromwich Albion (46%) and Charlie Austin for Queens Park Rangers (54%) - in the top-10 goalscorers in the Premier League this campaign have been more valuable to their side. Tellingly, since Moussa Sissoko gave the Magpies a crucial three points at home to QPR on November 22, Newcastle have won four matches - and Cisse has netted in three of them. The only victory John Carver's men have managed minus Cisse in that time was the 3-0 win at Hull City (31/01/15), when Remy Cabella, Sammy Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran bagged the goals. Against Man United, Cisse had an off day in front of goal and dragged three shots wide of the target even before his bullet header was expertly tipped wide by David de Gea. With an expected seven-match ban looming for the Senegalese striker following his alleged spitting incident with Man United's Jonny Evans, the rest of the Newcastle side need to start chipping in with goals or results will hard to come by. Worrying times for black-and-white supporters indeed...
