10 Strangest Ever Chelsea Signings

6. Nemanja Matic

The exception to that rule is Nemanja Matic. Matic was used as a makeweight in the deal that saw David Luiz join the club from Benfica in 2011, with the defensive midfielder heading in the opposite direction after making just the two appearances for Chelsea. It looked as though that would be the last we'd see of the Serb in the Premier League, until the Blues performed a spectacular U-turn and re-signed him last January. Chelsea, obviously realising their folly in letting Matic go, forked out £21 million to bring their former player back home, having originally given him away for nothing.
