Not the David Ginola who graced the wing at Newcastle and Spurs, dancing past defenders and producing moments on magic on a regular basis - it was the grey-haired, over-the-hill incarnation that joined Everton in 2002, following a stint at Aston Villa. There was no method to the madness of recruiting this ageing Frenchman, who played just five unspectacular games for the Blues before retiring to pursue a career in acting. Ginola's acting career has been almost as low key as his time at Goodison Park, but he has found some success in broadcasting, professional wine making (yes, really), and at one point flirted with a FIFA presidency bid.
