10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Club Atlas

6. Atlas' Manager Is An Argentina-Born Ex-Uruguay International

Another similarity between Newcastle and Club Atlas is that they both head into this match with new head coaches at the helm - Steve McClaren for the Magpies, and Gustavo Matosas for the Foxes. Atlas' new boss is an Argentina-born former Uruguay international midfielder or centre-back who played for a variety of clubs in South America. As a player he lifted the Copa America with Uruguay in 1987, as well as the Uruguayan Primera Division title twice and the Copa Libertadores with Penarol. He has been coaching since 2002 and has taken charge of 12 teams, with the 50-year-old having won the Mexican Liga MX in each of the past two seasons - as well as claiming the CONCACAF Champions League with Club America last year. Matosas is keen to deliver trophies to a side who have had even less success than Newcastle United in recent (and not-so-recent) years.
