10 Things (Other Than Money) Used To Purchase Footballers
7. Franco Di Santo - 12 Footballs, 2 Goal Nets & 40 Litres Of Paint
The Transfer: Tiro Suizo (Argentina) to Audax Italiano (Chile). The Year: 2005. The Fee: Twelve footballs, two goal nets and forty litres of paint. After spells at the likes of Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic in England, Franco Di Santo now plies his trade in Germany with Werder Bremen and he is (somehow) a full international with Argentina. Prior to all of that, however, he made his professional debut in Chile with Audax Italiano and his transfer into the professional game was an interesting one. Bought from amateur side Tiro Suizo in his homeland, Di Santo cost the Chilean side twelve footballs, two goal nets and forty litres of paint. Some would argue that's all he's worth now, but he has actually cost £2 million at one point (when he moved to Wigan).
