10 Things UFC Want You To Forget About Chuck Liddell

6. Later UFC Record

Every dog has its day, or so the saying goes. Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell was for too long completely unaware that his time competing in the sport was over. There are debates on what caused Chuck€™s solid chin to suddenly crumble. Some say it was the TKO he was subjected to by Rampage Jackson at UFC 71, others believe it was the legendary war he was involved in with Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79, while many contend it was that horrendous right from Rashad Evans which instantly dropped the ex-champ. In any case, we can all agree that Chuck€™s body had been put through a lot of punishment so its eventual decline was inevitable. Owing to his reliable chin suddenly crumbling, Liddell suddenly started losing fight-after-fight by KO/TKO €“ indeed, he would lose all three of his final fights either getting knocked-out or giving the referee no option but to intervene. It made for extremely uncomfortable viewing and everyone wanted to see The Iceman throw in the towel; everyone except for Chuck, that is. Thankfully, following another KO loss to Rich Franklin in the very first round, Dana White announced that he wouldn€™t allow Chuck to fight in the UFC again; this would lead to the ex-205lb champion€™s reluctant retirement. It€™s hard not to respect Chuck€™s desire to fight, but The Iceman didn€™t do his legacy any service by going out on three consecutive KO/TKO loses. Arguably the greatest American MMA fighter ever and one of the UFC€™s biggest draws would have been better served knowing when to quit. Though he is still remembered favourably, there is no doubt that the UFC would prefer us to forget those final three fights in an otherwise superb career.
