10 Things UFC Want You To Forget About Chuck Liddell

5. Disproportionately High Pay Roll

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ULeEmPAXco It makes Liddell€™s desire to continue battling for the UFC despite his diminishing quality as a fighter when you realise just how much he was being paid. In his final three KO/TKO loses to Rashad, Shogun and Franklin, Liddell received $500,000-a-fight, more than five times that made by his victors even with their win bonuses. Given the decisive manner in which he lost each time, it seems disproportionate that Liddell should make so much more than all the other fighters on a PPV card, particular with the knowledge that Liddell wasn€™t even taking these final fights very seriously as we shall see later. When the MMA community was told that Chuck was reluctantly being made to retire, it was widely assumed that the love of martial arts was what made him unwilling to hang up his gloves. However €“ knowing that he was making half-a-million a time €“ cynical fans began to state that The Iceman just wanted to cash in while he still could. We will never know Liddell€™s motives for wanting to continue past his prime, but the UFC would be eager to eliminate the notion that it was financially enthused rather than being pure warrior spirit.
