10 Things We Learned During Newcastle’s Summer Transfer Window

1. Newcastle Finally Have Squad Depth

The Newcastle United bench against Manchester United consisted of Mike Williamson, Papiss Cisse, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons, Florian Thauvin, Cheick Tiote and Karl Darlow. Now, with the exception of Williamson and Darlow there is an argument that the other five players could comfortably start in Steve McClaren's side. It's brilliant to see players challenging for places and the Magpies having tactical options to develop. It's up to McClaren to prove that he can handle the players as a group but so far he has done a fairly good job (but he needs to get a win soon).
