10 Things We Learned From Doncaster Vs. Sunderland

1. Jeremain Lens Will Be A Star

Right, this is it. What you've all been waiting for. I'll be honest I paid my money last night to see one man, the other 10 were largely irrelevant as I've seen them before. 2,500 other Sunderland fans must have gone with a similar mindset, after all, there's no other reason why that many people would visit Doncaster on a random Wednesday night. I went with the mindset of 'it doesn't matter about the scoreline, as long as Lens has a good game' and that's why I left the Keepmoat with a grin. The most accurate description of Lens is a tall, gutsy Stephane Sessegnon with a final product. The perfect combination. He tortured the Doncaster defence on either side, with his favourite move being to draw two defenders towards him before exploding through the middle of them. Lens has a box of tricks, and is capable of holding onto the ball, but he wasn't selfish and played some excellent passes. He also drilled some excellent crosses into dangerous areas. The Dutch forward beat two men, produced a few step-overs to beat a third and slammed a 30-yard strike at the very top corner, only to see his effort saved, but it suggested he's got an eye for the spectacular. Perhaps most impressively, Lens scrapped, battled for the ball and even tracked back, and while he looked understandably tired by the end, he's shown enough quality to suggest he's going to be a star this season. Possibly our only one...
