10 Things We Learned From Doncaster Vs. Sunderland
2. Younes Kaboul Should Be A First Team Player
It's a fairly bold statement based on 45 minutes of action, but Kaboul was the standout defender on the night. For a start he's massive, an absolute unit of a man. He came with the Wes Brown reputation of being a great 'backs to the wall' defender capable of no-nonsense clearances and towering headers, but while that may be the case he also showed he's comfortable on the ball. Kaboul looked calm and composed throughout against lively opponents, and is exactly the sort of fresh yet experienced presence Sunderland should be looking at starting in the place of John O'Shea. The ex-United man isn't awful, but he's lingered for too long and a fresh approach is needed. Coates and Kaboul should be the way forward but O'Shea will no doubt get the nod... Simply because he's John O'Shea.
