7. Newcastle's Threadbare Squad Is Already Being Tested To The Max!
Siem de Jong's injury, Daryl Janmaat's red card and a not so good looking withdrawal for Moussa Sissoko, who was favouring his groin at the end of the first half, has completely decimated Newcastle's squad just two weeks into the new Barclays Premier League season. It's clear to see that United, on paper at least, have a more than decent first XI they could put on the field. But just looking at the replacements for the players aforementioned conjures up all sorts of problems. Mike Williamson, of all people, was the man named to replace de Jong, while The Magpies have no recognised cover at right back (Gael Bigirimana filled in during pre-season) and aren't exactly blessed with options of any bonafide quality in the midfield. Football is a squad game and Newcastle, as things stand, don't have one of those. Investment is needed, and fast!
