10 Things You Didn't Know About Man City

3. The Oldest Premier League Player Turned Out For Them

The date was April 29th, 1995. Manchester City were taking on high-flying Newcastle United. There might not seem to be anything particularly interesting about this game, but it was on this day that John Burridge became the oldest player to play in the Premier League, a record that lasts to this very day. He was 43 years, four months and 26 days at the time. The game finished 0-0. Burridge was something of a journeyman, starting his career in 1969 with Workington. He would go on to represent such varied clubs as Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Dumbarton, Darlington, Byth Spartans, Aberdeen and QPR, before ending his career at the aforementioned Spartans in 1997. Burridge also finds himself in the Blackpool FC Hall of Fame, and is credited with discovering Oman goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi, he of Bolton and Wigan fame.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
