Zidane has always had a fiery temper, and we'll see more of it later! The Frenchman's short fuse was evident from a young age. He started his professional career at the small French club AS Cannes, and early on his coaches spotted that they needed to tame his temper if they were going to able to polish his undoubted talent. Jean Varraud was his first coach, and claimed that Zidane's first few weeks at the club were spent mainly on cleaning duty rather than playing football - the reason? Zidane punched an opponent in a youth team game after the other player mocked Zidane's "ghetto" origins. The unnamed opponent was the first to learn that you don't mock Zidane and get away with it. He wouldn't be the last!
