10 Underrated FIFA World Cup Moments

2. Holland Walk Over Broken Brazil - 2014

Nobody will ever forget where they were when Brazil were destroyed 7-1 by Germany in the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2014. They were five goals down before the half-hour mark. People don't talk much about the performance that followed that horror show. Third-place play-off matches are often fun matches that are full of goals. So everyone was curious to see how Brazil, the host nation, would respond to that humiliation when they played Holland. The Brazil team that took to the pitch was a broken one, scarred by the trauma of the 7-1.

Within three minutes, they had given away a penalty. Thiago Silva could have been sent off for his last-man tackle but wasn't. By the 17th minute, Holland had found their second goal, Daley Blind capitalising on shambolic defending. With a backline as astonishingly disorganised as theirs, it felt as though another huge battering was on the cards. The body language of the Brazil players looked defeated going back to the centre circle. They managed to keep the score down, conceding the third goal in stoppage time. A bad end to a nightmare World Cup.
