10 Unmissable Group Stage Fixtures At World Cup 2018
7. Germany Vs. Mexico (June 17)
Arguably the most anticipated clash of the first round of group stage fixtures, Germany vs. Mexico promises to be a highly entertaining encounter. The World Champions go into the game as favourites, but history has shown that former winners have struggled to defend their titles. France, Spain, and Italy, for example, all went out at the group stage after winning the previous tournament.
While we can't predict anything with absolute certainty, there's potential for this game to feature quite a few goals. Both Mexico and Germany like to get forward and make things happen in the final third, and each squad features some really exciting attacking talents, with the likes of Javier Hernandez, Raúl Jiménez and Hirving Lozano on the Mexican side, with Thomas Müller, Timo Werner, and Marco Reus for the Germans.
With Sweden and South Korea filling out Group F, it's likely that Germany and Mexico will be the two sides to qualify, so this clash could have a big say in determining the overall group winner and will definitely be a hotly-contested affair.
