10 Weirdest New Signing Reveals In Football History

9. Alexis Sanchez Plays Piano - Manchester United

In the early to mid 2010s, Alexis Sanchez was quite a big deal. Underappreciated yet brilliant for Barcelona, he single-handedly carried Arsenal to success well beyond their abilities and served as the talismanic leader of Chile's most successful national team ever.

After eventually losing patience with Arsenal's lack of direction, he landed a massive move to Manchester United. It all looked so promising. Cue the transfer announcement. Instead of a swashbuckling highlights package that showed off his dynamism, we got... Alexis playing "Glory, Glory Man United" on the piano while wearing his kit. Yes, Alexis also walked out to some fake crowd noise at Old Trafford with his name displayed in a cool font. But that really was it.

Fans and non-fans mocked the announcement and it is currently considered to be the gold standard in weird transfer announcements. However, in hindsight, this could also be seen as one of the most accurate signing reveals ever. Considering that Alexis played more piano than football during his stint at Old Trafford, this was an unintended piece of genius.

El NiƱo Maravilla was loaned to Inter in 2019 and made his deal permanent in the summer. Showing signs of his former self, Sanchez is on his way to rebuilding his reputation. Unfortunately, no matter how well he does for the Nerazzurri, fans will always remember the hilariously ironic piano version of "Glory, Glory Man United".
