11 Bizarre Transfer Stories Involving Newcastle United

10. A Lie In Cost Newcastle Loic Remy

The Claim Instead of coming to Newcastle as planned ahead of his move from France to see what the club could offer him, Loic Remy had a lie-in and went sight-seeing in London, allowing QPR to swoop in and offer him double the wages, much to his wife's delight. The Truth Completely true, sadly, and a typical indictment of what it is to be a professional footballer these days. Having met the club's representatives in London on the Sunday, Remy was supposed to travel up to Newcastle on the Tuesday for further talks and presumably to sign off the deal, but instead he didn't catch the flight and stayed in London at his hotel instead, enjoying the bed, apparently. The trip North was then cancelled altogether when Harry Redknapp and Tony Fernandes swooped in with double the wages and a lie about "footballing reasons" was born. Remy's wife was delighted, as she preferred moving to the capitol. Let's hope she enjoyed being relegated just as much.
