7. Italy Vs. Brazil (1982, Second Round)

This was another memorable encounter from 1982, as the tactically minded Italians took on a flamboyant Brazil side in a scintillating clash of styles.

Paolo Rossi headed the Italians in front after just five minutes, before Zico played a lovely ball to set up Socrates to equalize from close range. However, a misplaced Cerezo pass set up Rossi to score his second goal from just outside Brazil's box.

After the interval, Falcao equalized for Brazil with a terrific strike from about 20 yards out. A 2-2 scoreline would have been enough to get Brazil through to the semifinals on goal difference (the second round was then a group stage), but Italy had the last laugh when Rossi pounced to score his third goal with 15 minutes left on the clock. Italy prevailed, and went on to lift the trophy.
