12 Newcastle Successes (And 12 Failures) Scouted By Graham Carr
... And Graham Carr's Transfer Failures...
12. Dan Gosling
Signed: 2010 (from Everton) Transfer Fee: Free Position: Midfielder Newcastle United Appearances: 36 (2010-14) Newcastle United Goals: 1 Current Club: Bournemouth Dan Gosling was going to be the next English superstar. Signed by Everton from Plymouth Argyle in 2009, he was going to go on to dominant the Premier League for years. By the time Newcastle swooped in to sign Gosling on a free transfer - they didn't need to pay a fee despite the player having been under 24 because Everton had not offered the midfielder a written contract - he had already been struck down by serious injuries, and he never came close to match his potential on Tyneside. Gosling made just 24 Premier League appearances during four years at Newcastle before signing for Bournemouth on a free transfer last summer. Carr took a gamble on an injured player who had looked the real deal as a youngster, but Gosling has never kicked on. Signing Rating: 4
