12 Newcastle Successes (And 12 Failures) Scouted By Graham Carr

7. Romain Amalfitano

Signed: 2012 (from Reims) Transfer Fee: Free Position: Attacking-Midfielder Newcastle United Appearances: 5 (2012-14) Newcastle United Goals: 0 Current Club: Dijon
The epitome of Carr's failures, Romain Amalfitano was signed due to the successes of his elder brother Morgan - who has been capped once by France and has played for Marseille, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United - and proved to be an awful acquisition. An attacking-midfielder by trade, Newcastle snapped up the Frenchman on a free transfer from Reims in 2012 but he failed to make a single Premier League appearance, only playing five times in the Europa League. Loaned out to Dijon in Ligue 2 in 2013-14, Amalfitano moved permanently at the end of that campaign on a free transfer. His departure has barely even registered with the Toon faithful, so minimal was his impact on Newcastle United. It seems as though almost every single unknown player who Newcastle have signed under Carr - aside from Perez - has turned out to be a major disappointment. Signing Rating: 1
