The prolific German striker had long been linked to Chelsea although the Blues didnt appear too interested in signing Mario Gómez this summer before he headed off to Italy. André Villas-Boas and Tottenham Hotspur did
seem keen to bring the treble-winning striker from last season to the English Premier League but failed to convince him to join over the Italian side. Both teams qualified for the Europa League this season and Fiorentina have made a few impact signings this summer bringing in Josip Ilii, Joaquín and Massimo Ambrosini this summer after signing Giuseppe Rossi in January.
