12 Things Man Utd Want You To Forget About Sir Alex Ferguson

11. The Unseemly Feud With Rafa Benitez

Ferguson was, and in many ways still is, an abrasive figure, and rubbed several people up the wrong way during his spell as manager of Manchester United. His feuds with rival managers were legendary, whether it was Kevin "I'd Love it!" Keegan or Arsene Wenger, Ferguson had a tempestuous relationship with his colleagues down the years. But perhaps his most unseemly of feuds was with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez. The rift started when Ferguson accused the Premier League of 'handicapping' his side with a tricky list of fixtures. Unimpressed, this led Benitez to brilliantly counter Ferguson's charge with his now-infamous list of facts, which shed light on a number of uncomfortable home truth, including the fact Ferguson's behaviour toward officials was flying in the face of the Respect campaign. Neither party came out of this very well, with Ferguson claiming Benitez was talking "absolute b*****s", while Benitez himself looked just a little bit unhinged as he reeled off a list of A4.
