The off-season is finally over and the pre-season friendlies are upon us. Newcastle United will get their friendly fixtures underway with a short trip across the River Tyne to near-neighbours Gateshead as they face the Conference side at the International Stadium on Friday night (8pm kick-off). Intriguingly, both sides head into the match with new managers/head coaches at the helm - as Steve McClaren and his coaching contingent oversee their first game since taking charge of the Magpies last month. Gateshead head into the match having undergone arguably an even bigger overhaul this summer, with former Sunderland boss Malcolm Crosby now in the dugout following Gary Mills' departure to Wrexham at the end of last season. What's more, chairman Graham Wood has relinquished control of the Conference club to new owners Richard and Julie Bennett, meaning a fresh structure is in place at "The Heed".
