11 Things Newcastle Fans Want To See From Magpies During Gateshead Friendly

3. A Resounding Win

Newcastle should not underestimate Gateshead, that's for certain. But, all things considered, the Magpies should be making a statement of intent against a Conference side who faded badly towards the end of last season and who have gone through a bit of upheaval themselves this summer with a change of manager and owners. Four divisions separate the sides - not to mention thousands upon thousands of pounds a week in wages - and so Newcastle should be aiming to get their pre-season campaign off to a positive start before they fly out to the USA this weekend. Magpies supporters are expected to turn out in their droves at the International Stadium - and they will expect to see goals. Newcastle usually send a reserve team to play Gateshead but the club have promised that will not be the case this time around, so Steve McClaren's men should be looking to West Bromwich Albion's 7-0 third-round FA Cup thrashing of the Heed in January as a result they should be aiming to replicate. It's time Newcastle started winning games easily - because the last occasion that happened was probably the 3-0 victory at Hull City in January.
