8. Crystal Palace v Burnley, 1979
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoHERgb4BOk During winter of the 1978/79 campaign, bad weather saw the postponement of Crystal Palace's home fixture with Burnley in the old Second Division (known as the Championship today) until after the final saturday of the season. With Brighton, Stoke and Sunderland all winning their final games, Palace knew exactly what they had to do to secure promotion to the First Division; a win and they would go up as Champions, a loss and they'd have to stay in the Second for another season. In front of a record attendance at Selhurt Park of 51482, Palace bombarded the Burnley goal with shots but the visitors resolutely kept the ball from their net. Finally with only 14 minutes left to play, Vince Hillaire floated in one of his trademark crosses and Ian Walsh headed home to gain promotion and spark a massive pitch invasion.
