Few players wore their heart on their sleeve and put quite so much effort into every single football match they played as Stuart Pearce. The former England international full-back signed for Newcastle United from Nottingham Forest in 1997 and he spent two years at St James' Park.
Having failed to score during his 37 league appearances for the Magpies, Pearce moved back to his home city of London with West Ham in 1999. Two goals in 42 league games between 1999 and 2001 followed for Pearce before the tough-tackling England international moved to Manchester City, where he retired from playing before becoming their manager.
