14 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Ian Cathro

11. Injury Put Paid To His Own Playing Career... Which Is Why He Established His Coaching Clinic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bsUCT8CUGY Although Cathro himself admits he was unlikely to have ever made it as a professional footballer because he was "never a good player", injury did put paid to any such dreams. Following his youth career at Forfar, Cathro spent three years at Clyde (2004-07) and then two at Brechin City (2007-09) but he quickly realised that he was never going to be a professional midfielder and so he established his coaching clinic, originally on the side, before moving into that work full time. Philosophical about his failure to ever break into the senior ranks and his injury, Cathro said:
"I was never a good player - it wasn't a major sob story."
The way his career has gone since, you'd have to agree with him...
