15 Biggest Opening Day Shocks in Premier League History

5. Middlesbrough 0-1 Bradford City - 1999

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNE7MX2mB2Y While Paul Jewell may have been sick to his stomach over a last-minute goal on the opening day of the season in 2005, he will have revelled in one six years earlier. Having been forced to enviously watch the top-flight from the sidelines for 77 long years, Bradford City were back, and through a last-gasp goal from veteran Dean Saunders, they had their first Premier League win. Facing a Boro side who had finished in a respectable ninth position the season before, and could boast a wealth of talent in the form of Paul Gascoigne, Christian Ziege and Andy Townsend, Bradford displayed a gritty, determined performance eerily similar to that of Wigan against Chelsea. Having just arrived from Benfica on a free transfer, Saunders had only trained with the side once before entering the fray with eight minutes to go, before scrambling home the winner which would sent the away section into utter jubilation.
