Eric Cantona scored many a crucial goal for Manchester United in the 1995/96 campaign, none more so than his winner against Newcastle at St James Park that planted the first seed of doubt in our title challenge with 10 games to go. It was from this point that Sir Alex Fergusons men began the process of chipping away at the 12-point lead Keegans men had built up in the months previous. For an hour Newcastle had dominated their title rivals without reward, partly due to the heroics of Peter Schmeichel, in goal, and continued to press forward in search of victory. And then out of the blue the visitors strung together a neat passing move down the left that ended with a young Phil Neville clipping a cross to the back post. Every eyeball in the stadium followed the trajectory of the ball as it dropped perfectly for Cantona to flash a beautifully executed volley past Pavel Srnicek and into the bottom corner. Geordie hearts began to sink. It marked a huge turning point in the season as we managed to just five wins from our remaining games compared to Man Utds seven as they ended up winning the title by four points.
