15 Reasons Why 2014 Winter Olympics Is Surprisingly Fun To Watch

4. No Idea What Is Going On? No Problem

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58e6m3Bp448 Both men's and women's curling has been heavily promoted by the BBC as Great Britain is aiming for a couple of medals, but if you've never seen the sport before, it will be more than a little incomprehensible. It's related to bowls, and the commentators do their best to explain the rules when they can, but it's understandably hard to get the intricacies of a game described as "chess on ice" across to an uninitiated audience. Oddly, despite the minor problem of having no idea what's happening, curling is tense, engrossing and often goes down to the wire. Who knew?

3. "How Is That A Sport?!"

This is one of those events you might have found on the red button or on BBC2 in the middle of the day and watched with the dawning realisation that it's the coolest sport ever. In biathlon, competitors ski around a cross-country system and stop periodically to take the rifle off their backs and shoot five targets. In a programme which includes any number of thrilling events, biathlon still stands out as the oddest and yet the most captivating sport of the Winter Olympics.
