15 Worst Ever Man Utd Premier League Signings

5. Eric Djemba-Djemba

Yes, so good they named him twice €“ we all remember the chant. Only if this Cameroonian midfielder really was being named based on how he good he was, chances are he€™d be left nameless. When Alex Ferguson signed Djemba-Djemba from Nantes for £3.5 million in the summer of 2003, many had never heard of him. After impressing for Cameroon in 2002€™s African Nations Cup and World Cup, then the 2003 Confederations Cup, Fergie brought the midfielder in as a long-term replacement for the legendary Roy Keane. On his United debut against Arsenal, a Djemba-Djembe tackle on Sol Campbell was described as €œobscene€ by Arsene Wenger. Obscene is just one word that can be used to sum up United€™s purchase of Djemba-Djemba in the first place. It goes without saying, Djemba-Djemba came nowhere close to filling Roy Keane€™s boots. Hell, he didn€™t even get close to filling Nicky Butt€™s boots. It€™s said that the move to Old Trafford went to the Cameroon midfielders head. Purchasing 10 4x4 cars and opening 30 different bank accounts would certainly suggest that something wasn€™t quite right. Remember when Djemba-Djemba moved to Aston Villa in 2005 and resurrected his career? No you don€™t, and that€™s because it never happened. The midfielder made 20 non-existent performances for United before leaving for Villa and making just as little of an impact there. Since leaving Villa Park in 2007, Djemba-Djemba has tried his hand in Qatar, Denmark, Israel, Serbia, Scotland, India and can currently be found on the books of the mighty Persebaya Surabaya in Indonesia.
