16 Reasons Why Newcastle Have Gone From Mid-Table Mediocrity To Relegation Fodder

14. Decision To Allow Players To Leave During The January Transfer Window

Not only did Newcastle fail to sign anyone during the January transfer window, they decided to compound their almighty cock-up further by allowing players to leave. During the January transfer window for Newcastle, this was the incomings and outgoings: Players signed = 0 Players loaned/sold = 9 (if you include Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's deal to Roma being made permanent) As well as five players going on loan to Rangers (for who only two have actually played for the Scottish outfit) - they were Haris Vuckic, Gael Bigirimana, Remie Streete, Kevin Mbabu and Shane Ferguson - Jak Alnwick left for Bradford City (albeit in March), while Callum Roberts and Adam Campbell temporarily moved to Gateshead. The worst decision, however, was to allow Davide Santon to return to Inter Milan on loan - a deal that will become permanent at the end of the season. Santon's girlfriend launched a scathing attack on the club on Twitter at the time, and the Magpies have been severely lacking in defence in recent months. Ludicrous - absolutely ludicrous.
