20 Greatest Kits In Newcastle United History

1. 1994/1996 - Goalkeeper Kit

It had number 1 on the back for a reason. After almost a decade of goalkeeper kits looking more like a magic eye puzzle or rejected exhibition from a modern art show, Adidas decided to just go and create the most gorgeous and heart-warming piece of sporting wear ever conceived. Shunning the ideas of block colours or patterns, they instead created a silhouette of the Newcastle skyline, with the Tyne Bridge itself taking pride of place. Set over a sunset colour-scheme that phased beautifully from a deep yellow to a warm red, the kit has become something a local treasure in more recent years. The city's hipsters even taking to wearing it out clubbing at one stage. While to some it'll remain a garish non-entity to be thrown on the pile with every other goalkeeper top from the 90s, it deserves a place atop any list for showing that even Adidas, a giant and faceless multinational company could still understand what it was about Newcastle that made it such a wonderful place to live, work, and most importantly, play football.
