20 Players Rangers Must Regret Signing

7. David Templeton

It reportedly took as much as £700,000 to tempt Heart Of Midlothian to sell David Templeton to Rangers in 2012. Whilst that may not be the biggest sum on this list by a long margin, it has in essence been money wasted - upon signing from Hearts, the media heralded the move as a brilliant one by then-manager Ally McCoist, who had signed one of the best young talents in Scotland. In truth, whilst the winger has some talent, he has rarely shown it in a blue jersey. After McCoist resigned as Rangers manager (or, if other reports are to be believed, was sacked), Templeton seemed to fade into obscurity. Rarely featuring under either interim bosses Kenny McDowall or Stuart McCall, the midfielder has vanished off the face of the earth. The only time Rangers fans have heard from the one-time potential Scottish international is when he has taken to the media and bashed McCoist's training methods. Much like Dean Shiels family defended him, Templeton's father has claimed Rangers have derailed his career, but when both have bashed McCoist, they fail to explain why the player didn't kick on under McCall. That's his own fault, not that of Glasgow Rangers, who are only guilty of paying a wage for an ill-equipped talent who wastes those skills more often than not.
