20 Worst Squads In FIFA World Cup History
19. Serbia & Montenegro (2006)
The 2006 World Cup was an event full of surprises for many. The hosts, Germany, went in as hot favourites but failed to make it to the final, unexpected names such as Togo, Angola and Trinidad & Tobago made it to the group stages and of course, that Zidane headbutt. But, one memorable addition to the 2006 World Cup were Serbia & Montenegro, albeit memorable for the wrong reasons.
This was the last time Serbia & Montenegro would unify their national teams for an international tournament, and after seeing their performances it’s easy to understand why. Serbia & Montenegro were handed a tough draw, being put up against Ivory Coast, Netherlands and Argentina.
A respectable showing in their first game saw them lose just 0-1 to Netherlands, before they were slaughtered 0-6 by Argentina in the following game. Their only goals in the finals came in 2-3 loss to Ivory Coast, before they slumped out of the tournament with no points and a -8 goal difference.
