5 Awesome Moments For The British Lions In Australia

5. Jason Robinson Vs Queensland, 2001

Jason Robinson is a phenomenon, a once in a generation player. With lightning acceleration and blurring footwork he could step round an opposing player in a phone box. He won trophy after trophy with Wigan during his Rugby League days, but some doubted whether he would be able to adapt to Union, and to be fair it did take him a little while to bed in. However, Graham Henry and his selectors recognised that quality was permanent, whatever the rules, and selected him for the Lions just six months after he switched codes. His first outing for the Lions was against Queensland, a decent side with around a dozen players with Super 10s experience. It's fair to say he struggled during the first half of the game, prompting the home fans to chant "Go back to Rugby League! Go back to Rugby League!" This was the proverbial red rag to a bull. In the next forty minutes Robinson was determined to show what he could do, and at the end of the game he had run riot, becoming the first Lion to score five tries on his debut. The final score was a massive 83-6 to the boys in red. He still came off to cries of "Go back to Rugby League!", though this time the chants came from his own thoroughly amused teammates. The Aussies were strangely silent.

Richard has been playing video games since the days of the BBC Micro, (and incidentally when is Chuckie Egg going to get a reboot?) He is currently available for the post of Head of Marketing at Nintendo, seeing as no-one else seems to be doing the job. He's also a major fan of fantasy/sf books and is just waiting for his novel about an assassin who doesn't wear a hood to get picked up.
