At 30-years-of age Robin Van Persie is the odd one out when it comes to contenders for the Golden Boot. It doesnt make him any less likely to achieve it however, especially with the attacking style of play seen from the Netherlands at this years World Cup. His link-up with former Chelsea and Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben has given the Dutch team a cutting edge when it comes to goals, claiming six out of the eight scored so far between them. An indifferent season for Manchester United, Van Persie was brilliant when he played scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances, unfortunately thigh problems over the Christmas period and a knee injury in March led the talismanic forward to miss a large part of the season. HIs injury problems may have been a blessing in disguise however, as he looks to have hit form at the right time. Now fully fit, his diving header in the 5-1 win over defending champions Spain was the catalyst for a Dutch revival and an early contender for goal of the tournament. If Van Persie can remain fit, he can be the first Dutch player to take home the Golden Boot.
