4. Massadio Haidara
Although the left-back was far from mistake free against Club Atlas, he displayed an attacking verve that Steve McClaren desires from his wide defenders. Haidara took every opportunity to advance forward with the ball against the Mexican side - just as he did against Gateshead, when he was rewarded with a penalty after just six minutes following one such purposeful run - and whipped in a few dangerous crosses. His performance was far from exceptional, with many loose touches meaning he was far-too profligate in possession, but Haidara seems to have really bought into the McClaren way. More-often-than-not shackled by Alan Pardew's safety-first tactics over the last few seasons, Haidara has been given far more freedom under the new regime.
