5 Heroes (And 5 Villains) From Sacramento Republic 0-1 Newcastle

3. Georginio Wijnaldum

The Dutchman only played for an unspectacular 20 minutes off the bench on his NUFC debut, but the mere sight of Newcastle's first major signing in a year was enough to really excite Toon supporters. Wijnaldum did manage one decent shot from just outside the area that forced a reasonable save from the Sacramento Republic keeper, but it was more the £14.5 million recruit's presence that really got NUFC hearts racing. It was difficult for Wijnaldum to really grow into the game in a side he had only trained with a few days and who were down to 10 men by the time he was introduced, but Newcastle fans were still overjoyed at seeing the 24-year-old kicking the ball in a black-and-white shirt. More will certainly come from this player in the coming weeks, months and years.
