5 Notorious Sportsmen Who Had Run-Ins With The Law

3. Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson Tyson is known as one of the best boxers to ever grace the sport, skyrocketing to 37-0 before losing his first fight to Buster Douglas in 1990. By then Tyson had held several different Heavyweight title belts, as well as unifying the belts to become the undisputed champion, a title which he held for two and a half years. However, sometimes over his boxing ability, Tyson is known for his colourful personality, and erratic behavior, often leading him to trouble both in and outside the ring. While Tyson was an excellent fighter, he had no shortage of controversy in the ring - after losing a fight to Evander Holyfield, via TKO, Tyson's camp demanded a re-match claiming that Holyfield had been headbutting Tyson without being called up on it. In one of the most infamous boxing fights of the modern era, the rematch ended after Tyson bit a part of Holyfield's ear off. Tyson is no stranger to trouble outside the ring as well, in the early 90's Tyson was sent to prison for the rape of 18 year old Desiree Washington, and while he maintained his innocence, and that the sex had been consensual, Tyson was found guilty and sentenced to 6 years in prison. This also came after accusations of domestic violence in his marriage to Robin Givens, and suggestions "that Tyson was known for unwanted, crude, and sometimes violent advances toward women wherever he went." He was released in March 1995 after serving only 3 years of his sentence.
